LionHeart: The Roar of Truth for College Life @NKUedu

    August 14, 2016

Rayshawn L. Wilson recently spoke at Northern Kentucky University (Highland Heights, KY) to the NKU R.O.C.K.S. Scholars. The program assists first year African/African American students in the transition from high school to college; it is hosted by African American Programs & Services (AAP&S) and they assist new students with reaching their fullest potential as they learn their "Major K.E.Y.S." to SUCCESS! (Responsibility, Opportunity, Community,Knowledge and Success)."

On August 13, Rayshawn spoke to the Scholars about his journey and shared his favorite "Roars of Truth." Rayshawn has been speaking to college students in Ohio and surrounding states for the past three years; in 2002, he became the first person in his family to receive a college degree from Otterbein College; he majored in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology.

Rayshawn addressed over two-hundred students as the featured keynote speaker for new and returning NKU R.O.C.K.S. Scholars. Each participant received a copy of his book, Lionheart: Coming From Where I'm From. The book is a compilation of pain, resilience, struggle and forgiveness of himself, and others. Rayshawn's book reaches across cultural norms and demographics and speaks to everyone’s spirit of tenacity and triumph while overcoming insurmountable odds.

This year, Rayshawn specifically taught about his "Roars of Truth for College Life" with the purpose of challenging college students to think critically and purposefully about the importance of making effective decisions to complete college. To learn more about Rayshawn's "Roars of Truth," follow him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@theRoarofTruth).

"Rayshawn Wilson, author of Lionheart shared his childhood struggles

and he managed to find success in growth." @nkuedu (2014)

"Thank you NKU for bringing me back!  You ROCK!

As always, you welcomed me with tremendous energy!"
